If I had $10 million, how would I live differently?
Does money buy happiness?
I was running in Buffalo a few weeks ago and a thought came to mind:
How would I live my life differently if I had $10,000,000 in cash?
I took some time to be specific in outlining what an ideal life would look like for me in those circumstances.
Before diving in, take a moment to listen to this audio. I fed my thoughts into an AI language model, and it turned them into a podcast featuring two fictional hosts. The voices you'll hear aren’t real people—pretty cool and kind of crazy, right?
Clarifications
Does the money renew?
Assume no, but you can invest it like normal money. Can I spend it all at once?
Yes.
Why $10 Million Dollars?
$10M is right around that “fuck you money” benchmark where you can essentially never work again and live off the interest income as a reasonable adult human.
PERSONAL
Spend 3 months each year living in different locations that I like or have an interest in.
Here’s my Year 1 travel schedule:
Houston, Texas – I love TX & fitness community is 10/10 for me + Veii
Medellín, Colombia – Great digital nomad community + learn Spanish
Hyattsville, Maryland – Where family roots are and Veii HQ
Bali, Indonesia – Beaches and tranquility + another digital nomad hub
Learn how to DJ then perform at raves/festivals
Hire a media person to record and edit personal life videos and creative ideas in real time
Every Wednesday, I’d treat myself to a new restaurant
NEVER FLY SPIRIT AGAIN
FAMILY
Rent a big Airbnb for family reunions, switching up the location each year.
I got my family together for an impromptu reunion this summer in Dallas
Retire my dad immediately so he could go back to Nigeria and catch a vibe
Spoil my baby cousins, nieces, and nephews to solidify my spot as their favorite uncle
Me + my brother’s daughter(my daughter) the day before her baptism
WORLD
Develop youth sports leagues in Nigeria: football, tennis, baseball(unconventional sports that kids there don’t get the opportunity to play)
Last year I sponsored a youth volleyball camp in Nigeria with uniforms
Mentor kids who come from communities like mine(PG County, Maryland, Nigeria, etc.)
Work to help reduce homelessness(I'm trynna be boots on the ground — no bureaucracy)
Create a space for entrepreneurs to share their struggles, network, and grow authentically
What Wouldn’t Change
Run or work out six days a week
Same daily meals
Still in the entrepreneurship game building my business(I love the game)
Conclusion
Doing this exercise made me realize that I don’t need a lot of money to do the things that make me happy. There are some things that would take a little bit of chicken to do but the majority I could budget into my life with proper planning.
In the last year, I’ve been able to do many things on my list just at a smaller scale. I don’t need to be extremely wealthy to live what my version of a rich life is.
